Events Culture night 2019: On conspiracy theories 13. September 2019 Open museum and lecture! Conspiracy theories and hatred of minorities.Over the past year, conspiracy theories about minorities has contributed to mass murder in a synagogue in Pittsburgh, two mosques in New Zealand, a shopping centre in El Paso, and most recently in an attack on a mosque in Bærum here in Norway. Is this typical of conspiracy thinking, or are these the exceptions? In a lecture by professor Asbjørn Dyrendal and scholar Martin Ringdal from NTNU, Jewish Museum Trondheim invites you to take a closer look at what characterises conspiracy theories and how they become connected to minorities, both systematic, contemporarily and specifically historically. The fabricated text “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” will be given special attention. What kind of text is this, and what is its historical origin and function, ask the lecturers. There will also be an opportunity to look around the museum. The museum will be open from 18:00 and the lecture will start at 19:00. Free admission! Limited places.
